PurityPlus® Grade 6.0 Gases by Coastal Welding Supply: More Production, Greater Cost Economies

Critical gas customers won’t settle for less than high-quality Carrier Gases for chromatography and all analytical applications. Manufacturing these gases should be a primary capability of any specialty gas producer. For something like forty years or so, both the limited detection abilities of general technology and ever better analytical techniques have justifiably put greater demand on these gases. The gas specifications that served 1970s needs well enough might well be inadequate as this century unfolds. Meeting or transcending updated specs necessitates a constantly renewed investment by the gas supplier – in instrumentation and purification equipment, in tutelage to coax maximum performance from these means, and in constant review, testing, and verification of manufacturing and quality programs. So that we can stay a step ahead of your needs, we’re increasing our ability to produce and certify the gases you need today … and tomorrow.

Have you given any thought recently to your gas acquisitions and what you’re measuring? Have you properly considered just how crucial it is to puchase the highest-purity gas your finances allow? Let’s examine the PurityPlus Specifications.

PurityPlus Helium,         UHP, 5.0                        Ultra Carrier, 5.5                       Chromatographic, 6.0

Minimum Purity            99.999%                        99.9995%                                  99.9999%

Oxygen                        < 2 ppm                       < 1 ppm                                   < 0.5 ppm

Moisture                       < 2 ppm                       < 1 ppm                                   < 1 ppm

Hydrocarbons              <0.5 ppm                     < 0.5 ppm                                < 0.2 ppm

Nitrogen                                                          < 4 ppm                                   < 1 ppm

Carbon Monoxide                                                                                           < 0.1 ppm

Carbon Dioxide                                                                                               <0.1 ppm

What can we glean from these specs? If you’re process measuring with components in percentage ranges, 5.0 gases are generally acceptable. If you’re measuring impurities in the 10–1,000 ppm range, you’ll achieve a flatter baseline and more precise measurements using 5.5 gases. And if you’re doing contaminant detection and quantification below 10 ppm, you’ll get better results using 6.0. That said, it isn’t merely about adhering to standards. It’s also about our process. Are your cylinders pretreated to prevent later contamination from sidewall corrosion and degassing? Ours are. Are the instruments used to affirm these specifications regularly calibrated using traceable standards? Ours are. And can this calibration be documented? Ours can.
