Argon Supplier to Beaumont

Coastal Welding Supply manufactures and provides PurityPlus® Argon for various companies that need it in Beaumont.

A handful of properties ensured that Argon would become an excellent candidate for technical uses, such as providing nuclear physicists with the thick atmosphere needed to segregrate neutrons, during the last years of the nineteenth century:

  • its inertness and molelular weight,
  • its comparative abundance in relation to other uncommon gases, and
  • its commercial workability.

Easily, the most common early use for dry, high-purity Argon was gassing the globes in incandescent light bulbs at the start of the twentieth century. Later on, with the invention and commercial emergence of gas metal arc (GMAW or MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG), welding in the 1940s required a dense inert gas, typically Argon-based. While it’s true that none of these are true specialty-gas purity applications, the call for them remains strong and they still constitute a major piece of Argon’s sales volume.

Current specialty gas applications for high-purity Argon include its use as a carrier or background gas in a range of analytical instrument applications, for example: in the ferreting out and analysis of trace and ultra-trace elements using Inductive Coupled Plasma Techniques, in Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption, and in Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. Argon finds further application in many forms of Gas Chromatography, in particular those utilizing a high-efficiency Electron Capture Detector (ECD) or an Ultrasonic Detector (USD). It’s equally employed as a carrier gas when analyzing hydrogen in helium with a TCD (Thermal Conductivity Detector) or USD. More recently, Argon has found its most extensive use in the semi-conductor industry as a carrier/purge gas.
